DJ Profile: Lindsey Stoner ’18

by Amanda Goodman ’18

I recently hit up the DJ booth to observe the Beyonce of radio, Lindsey Stoner of “Lindsey’s Tunes,” in her natural habitat. After I recovered from my initial star-struckness, I got the full run down from Lindsey about the ins and outs of radio.

Her theme two days ago was “Lindsey’s favorite songs from all the concerts she’s been to.” She started with Rihanna (her first concert), followed by The Click Five, Dr. Dog, STRFKR, The Black Keys, Griz, El Ten Eleven, Pinback, the Dandy Warhols, Arcade Fire, Tune-Yards, Guantanamo Baywatch, and finally Clap Your Hands Say Yes. Within that hour we travelled through time and space, throwing it back to the era of MySpace and alternative-pop boy bands with the early 2000s hit song “Just the Girl” and then making our way forward to about 2012 with “Barbacoa.”

Throughout the session, we kept coming back to the same nagging question: What ever happened to The Click Five? Are they still a band? Have they come out with any other music? Did they break up and start solo careers, or perhaps open up a vegan restaurant in Vermont? (Yes, please…) I know you’re just dying to know the answer and lucky for you, I just Wikapedia-ed it. Unfortunately, besides describing their downfall and ultimate breakup in 2011, there is not much documented about their follow up careers. (So I will continue to hope for the existence of this vegan restaurant.)

In this midst of all our record scrubbin’ (this is a real DJ term), I got the chance to ask Lindsey a series of questions so that her fans could get to know her a little bit better.

Who would you say is your Queen Bae?

Her first answer was the queen Bae(yonce), but then Lindsey disclosed her undying love for Winona Ryder (the main actress from Heathers) and Tina Belcher (from Bob’s Burgers).

If you could live in any time period, when would it be?

For this question, Lindsey answered, “Forty years in the future, because hopefully by then we would have taken a few more strides in social justice.” (True dat.)

What beverage are you?

Lindsey really enjoyed this question and claimed that she would be “carbonated water, because at first it just seems like ordinary water, but when you actually drink it, you realize that it’s full of surprises!”

So, what are ya waiting for? Go onto 91.9 on Tuesdays from 2-3 p.m. and chill with Lindsey on “Lindsey’s Tunes!”

Like right now.
