Before assembling this playlist, I truly had no idea there were so many songs about astrology. Whether or not we believe in the validity of astrology, most of us find that concepts from the zodiac still influence the way we think about the world and our relationships, whether we like it or not. The myriad of songs that reference astrology is evidence alone of this fact. As a person who filters nearly every interaction through the lens of astrology, these songs make me feel a part of something greater. As in, I now feel like if I met Beyoncé in person we could have an intelligent conversation about astrology.
Enjoy the tunes!
Signs – Beyoncé, Missy Elliot
This song is hilarious, and a total jam. It confirms my belief that Beyoncé and I would have a great conversation about astrology.
No Matter What Sign You Are – Diana Ross & The Supremes
A cute ditty about how, while astrology is fun, it should not dictate your love life. In other words, read those compatibility profiles, but don’t lose sleep if you learn a Pisces should never date a Taurus.
Aquarius – Tinashe
This is my version of “Age of Aquarius.”
Aquarius – Regina Spektor
As an Aquarius, I really relate to this song. Shout out to my fellow water-bearers!
Gift from Virgo – Beyoncé
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Beyoncé is such a Virgo. She is possessive and perfectionist, but as this song shows, also deeply sensitive and giving. Virgos are such a maligned sign, but Beyoncé owns her earth sign by asking for no less than she gives.
Pisces Fish – George Harrison
Pisces are known for being a spiritual, sensitive sign, and that definitely comes across in this charming narrative song.
Gemini – Alabama Shakes
I’m not sure exactly how this song relates to being a Gemini, but it’s a really good song.
Venus as a Boy – Björk
This isn’t a song about the zodiac exactly, but rather a song affirming the value of Venus, the planet of loooove.
Stars – Angel Olsen
Another song that is more about space than astrology, yet Angel Olsen captures the connection to the stars and planets that defines those with astrological leanings. Bonus trivia: Angel Olsen is an Aquarius!
Sleeping Pills – The London Suede
An odd song about what it means to be an air vs. water sign.
Heart Shaped Box – Nirvana
Fun fact: Kurt Cobain was a Pisces!
Aquarius (Luna Remix) – Danny L. Harle (for A. G. Cook’s Personal Computer Music)
I don’t know how this song ended up in my Itunes library, but I like it a lot??
Sore Subject – P.S. Eliot
P.S. Eliot is one of my favorite bands of all time – Katie and Allison Crutchfield are truly magical in everything they do. They’re also both Capricorns – maybe that has something to do with it?
