Playlist: Weekend Duty

By Devon Chodzin ’19

As a first-time CA, I feel like I’ve already seen it all. I’m a month into the job and I’m digging it.

But, this weekend, I’m on duty for a night. I expect to be up until 3 am (at least), praying that the weekend is fairly uneventful.

So, in the spirit of WKCO, I put together a playlist to try to convey exactly what “weekend duty” feels like:

Palberta – “Weekend”

My immediate reaction when I realize that this is my weekend.

Battles – “Ice Cream”

Tradition: splitting a pint of the market’s finest Ice Cream in between rounds

P!nk – “Get The Party Started”

Even before my first round at 10, the parties have already started down south, and as much as I want to join in…:/

Jlin – “Downtown”

The Horn Gallery will probably have someone fantastic performing whose performance I must forgo. Thankfully, I saw Jlin long before I signed any contracts with ResLife.

Beyonce – “Love On Top”

There’s a 100% chance that this will be played at the Old K all-campus and there’s a 200% chance I’m dancing to it up in my room.

Whitney Houston – “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”

This is an objective truth- EVERYONE at the party will sing along to the chorus and the CA’s on duty will be able to hear it from the Morgans. We will join in.

Semisonic – “Closing Time”

This somewhat annoying white-guy band did a really good job of coming up with exactly the anthem to ensure that everyone clears out of the Old K basement when they’re supposed to.

Darius Rucker – “Wagon Wheel”

Just as whoever’s hosting the all-campus decides it’s time to blast “Closing Time,” the Bullseye blasts this popular rendition of “Wagon Wheel” from the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, who started making a name for himself in country music in 2008.

Kelly Price – “Tired”

Because by the time I’m done with the last round, I can’t even articulate how tired I am.
