Collab Playlist: 2017

By Devon Chodzin ‘19

Most people agree that 2016 was a terrible year with an amazing soundtrack. Here’s to hoping that 2017 can be an incredibly good year with a similarly sweet soundtrack. I asked the staff at WKCO to describe what they’re anxiously awaiting this year in New Music, and here’s a snapshot of our Anticipated Releases!

Xiu Xiu's

Devon Chodzin ‘19: XIU XIU- FORGET: “Already, ‘Wondering’ has proven to be wildly entertaining. Xiu Xiu Plays the Music of Twin Peaks was a lot of fun, and I’m always so impressed with Xiu Xiu’s productivity. I can’t get enough!”

At time of publication, the album has been leaked. It was originally set to be released on February 23rd.

The Gambier Grill, better known as The Cove, is officially closed for business. After over a month of uncertainty about the fate of The Cove, which was facing its impending demise, and an especially wild (and problematic) Saturday night, the beloved dive bar and late-night cravings satisfier shut its doors and ceased operations.

We at WKCO are terribly sad to see it go. From the managers here who could use the establishment as a campus bar to those of us under-21 folk whose Cove experience is best defined by waiting for delivery milkshakes, we are all in mourning. WKCO came together to say our goodbyes in the one way we know how: a collaborative playlist.

See how we, through music, want to say our goodbyes to our most revered Gambier Grill:

“‘If cosmic force is real at all / It’s come between you and I.’ Goodbye, Cove.” -Maddie Farr ‘18

WKCO got together and shared our first favorite bands/musicians and what they meant to us. Here’s a look into where WKCO’s official music scene ambassadors first began, featuring real, no-holds-barred stories from our staff:

Collaborative Playlist: Let’s Get COZY

By Stephanie Holstein ’19
Being cozy is not just snuggling into your bed while it’s raining outside or having a warm, milky drink as you watch your favorite movie. Cozy is a state of mind, and the coziest of all the seasons has just graced us with its presence: FALL. While these tracks are not of the traditional, acoustic “oh-this-song-is-such-a-nice-soundtrack-as-I-hold-my-warm-apple-cider-with-both-hands-and-watch-the-leaves-silently-fall” variety, but rather nice lil’ songs that make each of us feel physically, mentally, spiritually comfortable. Fall means a lot of things to a lot of people (falling leaves, pumpkins, halloween, the ability to finally layer clothing) but here’s what fall–and more importantly, ultimate coziness–means to us.
